Wheel of Fortune Donates $10,000 to Hasbro Children’s Hospital

PROVIDENCE, RI – It may be March, but Wheel of Fortune is playing “Secret Santa” to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, which received a $10,000 donation from the famed television show this month. The donation was presented to the hospital by Michaela Johnson and Will Gilbert, hosts of The Rhode Show on WPRI-12, the local affiliate of CBS, which continues to broadcast Wheel of Fortune.

For the first time in Wheel of Fortune’s 32 seasons, the popular game show produced two weeks of shows that directly benefitted one charity through its fourth annual “Secret Santa Sweepstakes.” During the 10-day sweepstakes last winter, more than 10 million viewers tuned in nightly and a total of $435,655 was raised for distribution among Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the country, including the gift to Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

“We are so grateful to receive this gift and for our local Wheel of Fortune viewers to have selected Hasbro Children’s Hospital as the beneficiary to help children in their communities,” said Dr. Patricia Flanagan, interim pediatrician-in-chief for Hasbro Children’s Hospital. “Every dollar of this donation will directly support treatments and services for those we care for.”

Each weeknight, from December 8—19, Wheel of Fortune Wheel Watchers Club members watched to see if their Special Prize Identification Number (SPIN) ID was revealed, making them the winner of the same prizes as the show’s in-studio contestants. Whatever the home viewer won has been matched in cash and a minimum of $10,000 donated to a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital of that winner’s choice.
