Taveras Announces Free Disaster Prep Workshops for Businesses

Providence Emergency Management Agency to Host Series of Free Business Continuity and Resilience Workshops on May 23 and June 6

PROVIDENCE – Mayor Angel Taveras announced today that the Providence Emergency Management Agency will be hosting Business Continuity and Resilience Workshops. The Workshops will begin on Wednesday, May 23 and will be offered throughout the year, with the next one scheduled for June 6, 2012. Each session is scheduled from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, and will be held at various locations in the City.

The workshops, open to all Providence business owners, will be free of charge and led by regional experts in emergency management and business continuity.  The trainers will provide business owners with critical, hands-on information on how to protect their workers, profits and operations, if a  disaster were to strike.

The project, funded under a US Department of Homeland Security grant, will offer specific information on how business owners can assess risk, create a Business Continuity Plan, with a focus on emergency response and preparedness.   The goal is to help businesses to implement the plan to keep a business going following a disaster, and will be specific to industry needs.  Attendees will be given a business continuity template for their business;  a chance to receive a Strategy Assessment and a full Business Continuity Plan.

The workshops will be free of charge and include experts from Code Red Business Continuity Services LLC., Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency, and Providence Emergency Management Agency.  For additional information and to register for the free workshop, visit www.providenceri.com/PEMA/business-resilience.
