2013 Rhode Island and New England Financial Services Champion of the Year

Robert Mancini is a champion for the small business community

Robert Mancini has served as the executive director of the Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants since 2006.  The RISCPA is a non-profit organization of 1,900 CPAs, many being small businesses who work directly with small businesses.

In his role as executive director, Mancini regularly uses advocates for the small business community.  Through his leadership, the RISCPA has supported legislation that would improve the state’s economic climate for the small businesses.  Examples include improving the state’s overall tax structure, helping to eliminate binding arbitration and advocating for meaningful pension reform. Mancini believes CPAs remain critical in providing financing and taxation guidance and to small business owners.

Robert certainly has demonstrated a passion for promoting a good business environment and is well respected throughout the community for his fine efforts.

As an added means of promoting an overall theme of business development, RISCPA hosts two large networking events each year.  They draw more than 500 attendees.  These robust forums provide professionals from accounting, legal and financial communities the opportunity to mingle with the goal of creating new business opportunities.  Strong relationships with the lending community result from Mancini’s professional history as a banker with the former Fleet Bank and Citizens Bank.

Through his numerous relationships in the banking and financial services communities, Mancini has been successful in reigniting the society’s brand, creating and sustaining a vibrant atmosphere and energy for the RISCPA members, resulting in a 32 percent expansion of the society’s membership.

Robert maintains a strong commitment to the community.  He has served as a volunteer to a number of charitable organizations throughout his career.  He currently serves as secretary of the Gateway Real Estate Board, is co-chair of the St. Jude Children’s Hospital corporate executive committee, and is a member of the Freedom National Bank’s business advisory board.  Mancini has also been recognized by Johnson & Wales University for his contribution and support of the University’s College of Business.

In 1996, he was appointed by Governor Almond to the Rhode Island Lottery Commission.  He served on that board until 2005.

Mancini holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Providence College and has earned a certificate from the New England School of banking at Williams College.

For his efforts in championing financial services for the small business community, the U.S. Small Business Administration is pleased to present the 2013 Rhode Island and New England Financial Services Champion Award to Robert Mancini, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants.
