Peggy Farrell Named Co-Chair of Rhode Island Business Plan Competition

PROVIDENCE, RI – (September 11, 2012) The Rhode Island Business Plan Competition, New England’s leading community supported business plan competition, today announced that Margaret “Peggy” Farrell, partner in the law of firm of Hinckley, Allen & Snyder LLP, has been named co-chair of the organization.

Farrell joins Larry Davidson, principal with the accounting firm of Kahn, Litwin, Renza & Co., Ltd., in guiding the 12-year-old organization in advance of the 2013 competition, due to launch next month.

“Peggy, who has served as a competition judge since 2006, possesses a deep understanding of what it takes to launch and nurture a new business, and will be an invaluable addition to our management team,” said Davidson.

Farrell takes over from David Mitchell, who served as co-chair for the last two years.

“The Rhode Island Business Plan Competition serves a unique and important role by assisting both aspiring and established entrepreneurs in launching new enterprises,” Farrell said. “It’s a privilege to work with the many talented professionals who give so much of their time to the competition to help build the next generation of businesses in the state.”

Experienced in computer and other high technology law, including intellectual property protection and licensing, Farrell practices in the area of general corporate and securities law with extensive experience in business formation,  mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations and restructurings, strategic partnerships, private equity and venture capital financing and public securities offerings.

Farrell is a former trustee of Butler Hospital and chairman of the board of trustees of Women & Infants Hospital, and until 2012 served as a director and vice chair of the Strategic Planning Committee of Care New England Health System. The Providence Business News honored her as 2010 Business Women for overall career achievement. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Smith College and J.D. degree from the University of Cincinnati.

About the Competition

Established in 2000, the Rhode Island Business Plan Competition, an independent, nonprofit organization, has become an important element of the Rhode Island entrepreneurial landscape. To date, it has awarded more than $1.2 million in prizes to competitors developing businesses across many industries.
