Ocean State Job Lot to open 110th store

NORTH ADAMS, MA – Ocean State Job Lot, a leading closeout retailer based in Rhode Island with 110 stores in New England and New York, will celebrate the grand opening of its newest store at 830 Curran Highway/Route 8 in North Adams, Mass. on Saturday, August 24, 2013. It becomes the 46th store in Massachusetts for the retail chain.
Occupying 46,000 sq. ft. of the former Walmart building, Ocean State Job Lot offers a wide assortment of brand name merchandise at closeout prices. Shoppers will find an ever-changing array of household goods, apparel, pet supplies, seasonal products (gardening, outdoor, sporting goods), and kitchen pantry staples at a fraction of their typical price. The retailer plans to sublease an additional 27,000 sq. ft. of the building to Tractor Supply Co., which is expected to take occupancy by this Fall.

Job Lot Store Manager Scott Collett will oversee the facility, which will include 30 associates from the area in full- and part-time sales, operations and customer service job positions. “Our team looks forward to hosting shoppers, dignitaries, members of the community and friends when the doors officially open on the 24th for business,” Mr. Collett comments.
Grand Opening day begins when doors open to the public at 8:00 am. Festivities will continue throughout the morning including a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:00 a.m. with Mayor Richard J. Alcombright and local dignitaries. In keeping with Job Lot’s community-first approach to business, two special donations to local organizations will be made, courtesy of Ocean State Job Lot’s Charitable Foundation: a truckload of nutritious, shelf-stable food to the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, and the sponsorship of Honor Flight New England which flies Massachusetts-area WWII war veterans to visit the WWII Memorial dedicated to their service in Washington, D.C. “Thanks to the generosity of Job Lot customers throughout the area who gave at the registers, and by matching contributions from our Charitable Foundation, these two donations were made possible,” adds Mr. Sarlitto, who notes that Ocean State Job Lot has a long history of philanthropic leadership in the communities it serves.
Representatives from the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts and Honor Flight New England will be on-hand to receive donations and help raise awareness of their organizations. Other Grand Opening activities include: a live remote broadcast and prize wheel by WUPE-FM; face painting and balloon animals by Cinderella; appearance by the Steeple Cats’ mascot “Slider;” Northern Berkshire YMCA/Hoosac Tunnel Soccer League signups; prize drawings and other giveaways such as gallery admissions to DownStreet Art, carload passes to MASS MoCA’s viewing of the movie “Airplane!” and 2014 Opening Day Steeple Cats baseball tickets. Ocean State Job Lot will also be offering a variety of free food samples and a chance to win a $200 shopping spree.
Store hours in North Adams, Mass. are 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday.
