New England Tech Now Offering a Hybrid Criminal Justice Bachelor’s Degree Program for Public Safety Professionals

EAST GREENWICH, RI – Douglas H. Sherman, Senior Vice President and Provost at New England Institute of Technology (NEIT), has announced the college will now offer a new hybrid Bachelor of Science Degree program in Criminal Justice developed for public safety professionals who wish to earn a degree. Designed to be convenient, relevant and flexible for the working professional, this new program offers fully on-line courses but also combines on-line activities with face-to-face classroom and lab experiences. The program is scheduled to begin on March 30, 2015.

Candidates for this program must have a criminal justice background including either an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or college credit equivalent towards an Associate Degree level along with professional experience in law enforcement, public safety, corrections, security or military service. Applicants with fewer college credits, but who have substantial criminal justice experience, may request a portfolio review to assess their eligibility for the program.

NEIT’s hybrid Criminal Justice program is grounded in practical skills and extensive knowledge that directly address the challenges of contemporary law enforcement. The curriculum strengthens core competencies in criminal justice and builds upon these areas with such topics as homeland security, white-collar crime, social media, digital forensics, ethics and use of force, incident response and public administration. This program offers an accelerated academic schedule utilizing ten week courses with four academic terms per year.

Sherman stated, “Public safety, law enforcement and security professionals are essential to the well-being of our communities. They must adapt to an environment of rapid change and growing complexity. Designed with the flexibility and convenience sought by busy professionals, graduates of our Criminal Justice hybrid program will be better prepared for the daily challenges they face, for career advancement opportunities and for leadership roles in their chosen profession.”
