Mount Saint Charles Academy’s Music Director Receives Prestigious Music Award

WOONSOCKET, RI Mount Saint Charles Academy’s music director, Marc Blanchette ’76 of North Smithfield, RI, was recently awarded the Meritorious Service Award by the Rhode Island Music Educator Association at their annual meeting in September.   This award is the highest honor in the field of music education that a music teacher can attain.

Mr. Blanchette was a unanimous choice of the R.I.M.E.A. executive board and the only music teacher selected for this most prestigious award this year in Rhode Island.  The board stated that Marc represents “the very best example of a complete and totally dedicated music educator” and he has “set a very high standard of excellence in our field.”

In order to be nominated and to qualify for this particular award a teacher must demonstrate the following: effectiveness in teaching young people; educational innovation; continued professional growth; active involvement in local, state, and national affairs; and an effective school music program.

“Mount Saint Charles Academy is very proud of Mr. Marc Blanchette and all that he has contributed over the many years he has been director of the music program here,” Edwin Burke, principal of the Academy, said.  “Marc is a man of faith who challenges his students to develop their musical talents.   He has consistently and tirelessly given of his time and talent to benefit the students at Mount Saint Charles.  He is most deserving of the special recognition and we share in his celebration.” Marc follows his mentor and teacher at Mount Saint Charles, Brother Henry Peter Lussier, in receiving this award.
