Mount Saint Charles Academy Celebrates the Season Through the Fine Arts

WOONSOCKET, RI – Mount Saint Charles Academy presented “A Service of Lessons and Carols” on December 13, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at Precious Blood Church in Woonsocket, RI.  This service of prayer and song featured a series of readings that told the story of Christmas based on an Advent theme. Between each reading, music was performed by the Academy’s wind ensemble, hand bell choir, faculty choir, and Mount’s junior and senior high choirs. Liturgical dances were also performed by the students in Mount’s dance program.

“Lessons & Carols” has become a yearly tradition that fills the church with more than 150 participants and an audience of 1,000 people celebrating the Christmas season. Mount’s very first “Lessons & Carols” was held in 1999 at Our Lady of Victories.  It has also been held at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, and at Mount. Since 2006, “Lessons & Carols” has been held at Precious Blood Church.

“This event really is a beautiful service that celebrates the season,” Marc Blanchette, Mount’s Music Director, said.  “Not only has it become a tradition for Mount Saint Charles Academy, but it has also become a tradition for the entire community.”

In addition to “Lessons & Carols,” the Academy has several other upcoming Christmas performances scheduled by the Fine Arts Department. On Sunday, December 20th Mount’s junior high band and chorus will hold a Christmas concert on campus in Chapel Hall at 2 p.m. The following evening, Monday, December 21st, at Woonsocket’s historic Stadium Theatre Performing Arts Centre, the Academy’s senior high school ensembles will perform with the internationally known Italian tenor Carmine Orsini (tickets can be purchased at http://www.stadiumtheatre.com/).  All of these events are a truly great way to share the joy of Christmas with family, friends, and the community.
