Local Rite Aid Stores Announce “Miracle Balloon” Campaign to Raise Funds for Hasbro Children’s Hospital

PROVIDENCE, RI – Hasbro Children’s Hospital received a special visit on February 26 when representatives from Rite Aid stores across Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts came by the hospital to announce this year’s “Miracle Balloon” campaign. The six-week effort, which offers customers a convenient way to make donations to the hospital, begins on March 8 and runs through April 25.

Now in its ninth year, Rite Aid’s “Miracle Balloon” campaign is part of the company’s partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a nonprofit that helps to raise funds and awareness for 170 children’s hospitals throughout the country, including Hasbro Children’s Hospital. During the campaign, Rite Aid associates encourage customers to add a donation of $1 or more to their shopping total upon checkout through the purchase of the campaign’s “Miracle Balloon” paper icon.

In 2014, the “Miracle Balloon” campaign generated $110,234 locally, bringing the overall total raised for Hasbro Children’s Hospital to more than $610,000 since 2007. Money raised for Hasbro Children’s Hospital by Rite Aid helps to provide critical care, purchase lifesaving equipment, fund research, and cover medical costs for uninsured or underinsured pediatric patients.

“Rite Aid has become one of our most dedicated partners; we couldn’t be more appreciative of their long-standing support and the way in which their associates have embraced the hospital,” said Tracey Wallace, Vice President of Pediatric Services, Hasbro Children’s Hospital. “Every dollar raised through this campaign will be instrumental in helping us continue to provide the world-class care that Hasbro Children’s Hospital is known for—I have no doubt that the community will respond generously.”

As part of this year’s “Miracle Balloon” campaign kick-off, Hasbro Children’s Hospital honored the efforts of the top ten performing Rite Aid stores from 2014 with special plaques. The leading location was the Rite Aid on Social Street in Woonsocket, followed by the store on Newport Avenue in Rumford. Rite Aid locations in Coventry, East Providence, Middletown, Pawtucket, and Warwick were also recognized.
