Family Service of Rhode Island, Pawtucket Schools Launch City’s First Walking School Bus

Family Service of Rhode Island  and the Pawtucket School Department are launching Pawtucket’s first “Walking School Bus” on Thursday, April 26, 8 a.m. at Agnes E. Little Elementary School, 60 S Bend Street, Pawtucket, RI.
Attendees at the launch will be Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien, Family Service of RI CEO Margaret Holland McDuff, Pawtucket School Superintendent Patti DiCenso, Agnes E. Little students and teachers, and others.
Special walkers include Paws and Sox from the Pawtucket Red Sox, Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Sponge Bob Square Pants and Hello Kitty.
The Walking School Bus involves adults walking elementary school students to class by following a route, like a bus does, and walking together in groups.  The Walking School Bus promotes school attendance, daily exercise, and positive relationships between the young students and the adult route leaders.
Family Service of Rhode Island pioneered the Walking School bus over the past six years in Providence and Central Falls.  This is the first Walking School Bus in Pawtucket.
