“Faces of Caring” Photo Exhibit on Display at Women and Infants Hospital

PROVIDENCE, RI – The American Journal of Nursing’s “Faces of Caring” photo exhibit will be on display in the Malcolm and Elizabeth Chace Education Center at Women and Infants Hospital as a part of the Rhode Island Action Coalition’s two-day summit on the future of nursing. Delta Upsilon Chapter at-Large of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing is sponsoring the exhibit. Delta Upsilon Chapter President M. Patricia Quigley noted the relevance of this exhibit to the two-day summit as a means of highlighting “the importance of nursing as a career, as well as making note of its, often overlooked, historical significance.” The exhibition is free and open to the public. The exhibit will be open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from September 9th to September 22nd.
The Rhode Island Campaign for Action for the Future of Nursing is an initiative of the Rhode Island Action Coalition. Rhode Island was recently designated by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and AARP as an Institute of Medicine (IOM) Future of Nursing- State Action Coalition. RWJF and AARP have organized the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action to ensure all Americans have access to high quality, patient-centered care in a health system where nurses are essential partners. The nationwide campaign has established local coalitions to help implement specific recommendations of the IOM report. The Rhode Island Action Coalition (RIAC) is the statewide coordinating body for implementation of the IOM report recommendations. Rhode Island has specific health care challenges and needs that the RIAC aims to address. The RIAC is working with colleagues both nationally and statewide to create and model innovative solutions with nurses leading the way.
A special two day visit is planned to kick off the Rhode Island Campaign for Action. Dr. Susan Hassmiller, PhD, RN, FAAN, Senior Advisor for Nursing at RWJF and the Director of the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, will present an overview of the national outreach and education campaign and the key role of the Rhode Island Action Coalition. Local Coalition leaders will present the Rhode Island Action Plan. Dr. Hassmiller will attend seven events in Providence targeting key stakeholders to raise awareness and build support for the Rhode Island campaign. This art exhibit at Women and Infants Hospital aims to broaden access to the Future of Nursing initiative.
