Child and Family Presents Rock Bottom – From the Streets to Success

Child & Family will host successful Author and Business Development Executive, Michael Cooley, at its new Providence Community Center on Wednesday, February 27th, at 4:00pm.  This special presentation and gathering will be geared toward Rhode Island youth and is sure to have a positive impact on those in attendance.  The event is free and open to the public. Seating capacity is limited and reservations are requested.

When Michael Cooley returned to his childhood home in St. Louis, many of his old friends offered him this greeting: “Cooley, I thought you were dead.”  By many accounts, he should have been.  Michael Cooley was a member of two dysfunctional families. His mother in St. Louis was an alcoholic. His stepmother and stepbrothers in Gainesville, Texas, abused him relentlessly—both physically and verbally. As a child, Mike bounced from school to school and from city to city. As a teenager, he turned to gangs and drugs for a sense of acceptance. Eventually, he ended up homeless, sleeping on rooftops and in alleys, and living out of his car.  But after living as an abused child, a homeless and drug-addicted teenager, and a completely lost young adult, Mike decided to start over as a different person.  Rock Bottom—From the Streets to Success tells Mike’s story from his childhood in the 1960s until today. Mike will discuss how he overcame the hardships of his childhood and will share his experiences in hopes of helping others who may be facing their own challenges. Mike decided to start over as a different person.

The community is invited to hear Mike talk about his life from those early days to his current success as a successful business development executive with over 25 years of experience.  His career took him from working in the mail room to being CEO of a multi-million dollar company.  Overcoming life’s difficulties is something Mike Cooley knows well – his hope is to leave those youth in attendance inspired with hope about a positive future no matter what their past or present situation might be.  Pizza and soft drinks will be served after the presentation.
