CCACG Elects New Executive Committee Members

NEWPORT, RI – Citizens Concerned About Casino Gambling announced the election of their new executive officers at its January public meeting. Liz Taber, campaign coordinator during the recent election, succeeds Fr. Eugene McKenna as president, who ably led CCACG’s fight against the gambling industry for the past twenty years.

Attorney Frank Ray, a member of CCACG since its founding in 1977, will serve as vice president. Laurice Shaw, longtime CCACG member and former Newport City Councilwoman, will succeed Dave Wixted as secretary, and Kiki McMahan will continue to serve as treasurer.

“While we were successful in the last election, 38 years of fighting casinos in Newport has taught us to remain active and vigilant”, said Liz Taber.  “We remain focused on educating voters and our elected officials about the harms of casino gambling and to support sustainable alternatives that strengthen our local economy.”

The group’s next meeting will be held at the Newport Public Library on Saturday, February 14th at 10am.

Citizens Concerned About Casino Gambling is a Newport nonprofit dedicated to stopping the establishment and expansion of gambling in the city. Established in 1977, CCACG has a long history of success fighting gambling in Newport, including a 1980 attempt to turn Newport’s Goat Island into “Monte Carlo.”
