Barton Gilman Receives 2015 Outstanding Philanthropic Business Award

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Rhode Island Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP-RI) presented Barton Gilman LLP with its 2015 Outstanding Philanthropic Business Award.

Barton Gilman was nominated for the award by the Urban Collaborative Accelerated Program (UCAP). Barton Gilman attorneys have held a variety of leadership roles at UCAP, including board service and events committee participation. Throughout the year, various Barton Gilman attorneys present at UCAP’s career day for students, and the firm sponsors the school’s annual fundraiser.
In addition to its work with UCAP, Barton Gilman is also a Rhode Island partner organization with The Alliance for Non-Profit Growth and Opportunity (TANGO), which helps non-profits thrive by providing educational resources and a purchasing collaborative for carefully vetted professional service providers. Barton Gilman attorneys also serve on the boards of the Manton Avenue Project, and have volunteered their time at the San Miguel School, the Learning Community Charter School and the Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College.
The firm also committed to providing pro bono legal services by encouraging its attorneys to contribute up to 100 billable hours annually to pro bono projects. Through the Roger Williams Law School Pro Bono Collaborative, Barton Gilman attorneys collaborate with Bradley Hospital to assist families in need of guardianship.
In addition to donating time and talents, Barton Gilman attorneys also annually contribute donations to non-profit and charitable organizations, with the firm donating up to $1,000 per attorney to the charity of their choice.
“We are so honored to have been nominated by UCAP and to be awarded by AFP-RI, two organizations that we greatly respect for their own significant contributions to the Rhode Island community,” said Matt Plain, a partner in the Providence office. “We also congratulate our fellow recipients, Alex and Ani, Suzanne Magaziner, and Linnea Bjornson.”
