Save The Bay’s two-hour Seal and Lighthouse Tours set to begin on Nov. 19 in Newport

NEWPORT, R.I. – Nov. 8, 2016 – While the first of this season’s Save The Bay’s Newport Seal Tours will begin on Friday, November 11, the organization’s two-hour Seal-Lighthouse tours will launch a week later, on Saturday, November 19, combining the best of the Newport Seal Tours with a tour of one of Rhode Island’s most beloved historic lighthouses. The first Seal-Lighthouse Tour departs from Bowen’s Ferry Landing at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19. As the two-hour tour cruises through historic Newport Harbor, guests will take in 360° views of seals resting on Citing Rock off of Rose Island and enjoy an off-boat tour of the beautiful and historic Rose Island Lighthouse. Seal tours are held most Saturdays and Sundays from November 11 through April 31, plus some public school vacation days, while Seal-Lighthouse Tours will be held on select weekends each month from November 2016 to April 2017, beginning on Nov. 19 and 20.

“These tours are longer than our typical one-hour seal tours, in that we add another hour to enjoy beautiful Rose Island Light. Passengers will get a guided tour of both grounds as well as the lighthouse, where they will have the amazing opportunity to climb up to the top of the light,” said Dan Blount, education spet and boat captain.

Save The Bay has offered seal tours for more than 15 years throughout the months of October through April, when harbor seals come into the harbor to feed. Unlike visits to a zoo or aquarium, these boat tours offer guests the exclusive experience of catching winter seals in their natural habitat. And unlike Save The Bay’s shorter seal tours, these two-hour cruises include the lighthouse tour component. Save The Bay marine experts will provide an educational overview of harbor seals, Rhode Island’s recently-named official state marine mammal, and an historical perspective on Rose Island Light.

The two-hour Seal and Lighthouse Tours are $42 for non-members, $32 for members, seniors and children ages 3-12 and $5 for children under the age of three. These tours depart from Bowen’s Ferry Landing, 18 Market Square, Newport, RI. Tour tickets can be purchased online at Save The Bay’s Seal Tour website, www.savebay.org/seals, or through the Bowen’s Wharf kiosk in downtown Newport. For additional information call 401-203-7325.

Local attorney Rob Levine, a.k.a. The Heavy Hitter, proud sponsor of the MAE Organization for the Homeless 2nd annual Gala fundraiser

(Providence, RI) — Rob Levine & Associates is committed to supporting community based initiatives, such as the non-profit MAE Organization for the Homeless. MAE’s 2nd annual Gala fundraiser was this past Saturday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick. MAE provides hot meals, toiletries, shoes, bikes, tents, etc… to over 300 homeless and at risk individuals on the streets of Providence each year. They are very “boots on the ground” and out in the community with many outreach programs assisting homeless individuals by providing on-site services or taking them to shelters. They are also focused on helping homeless moms get into more permanent apartments and housing situations, improving job skills, teaching healthy eating habits, etc…thus ending the homeless cycle for themselves and their children

“We are dedicated to giving back to our community and have developed several programs this year to help us with this mission. As a paramedic, and after having been a police officer for many years, I’ve seen first hand the importance of community based initiatives. We are trying to do our part to keep our community safe by offering our own programs like the new Free Ride & Safe Ride App programs, as well as will continue to support great organizations and programs like MAE.” said Rob Levine. Beltone New England’s “Hear for Children” Campaign will Raise Funds for Hasbro Children’s Hospital Pediatric Audiology

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Throughout the month of September, Beltone New England, one of the nation’s leaders in hearing care, is hosting its “Hear for Children” campaign to raise funds in support of pediatric audiology at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, the area’s leading pediatric hospital.

The month-long campaign has set a goal to raise $15,000 to support the purchase of new equipment for the Hasbro Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Audiology Department.

Across 55 Beltone locations, staff and customers of the company will be able to support “Hear for Children” by making a donation on-site via check or credit card. Additionally, the effort will feature a dedicated online giving page where members of the community can make secure gifts and share the page with others who wish to support the campaign. Through its philanthropy program, Beltone will match all employee donations, up to a total of $5,000.

“As well as any of our community partners, Beltone understands the importance of taking advantage of the latest state-of-the-art audiology equipment when treating patients with hearing disorders,” said Margaret M. Van Bree, MHA, DrPH, president of Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. “Funds raised through this campaign will directly impact the lives of our patients; we are so grateful to Beltone for giving their staff and patients an opportunity to support our Pediatric Audiology Department.”

The Pediatric Audiology Department at Hasbro Children’s Hospital offers a full range of services for children, which include: comprehensive hearing testing using conventional, visual reinforcement and conditioned play audiometry, as well as physiological measures; sedated audio evaluations, including auditory brainstem response; central auditory processing evaluations; monitoring for ototoxicity; and cochlear implants and hearing aids.
