Washington Trust Donates $50,000 To South County Hospital Community Cancer Center

WESTERLY, RI – Washington Trust has donated $50,000 to benefit The Campaign for Cancer Care at South County Hospital in Wakefield, RI. South County Hospital President and CEO Lou Giancola, Washington Trust Chairman and CEO Joseph MarcAurele and Washington Trust President and COO Edward Handy made the announcement jointly, at a check presentation at the hospital on Monday, March 30, 2015. Also in attendance for the presentation was Tom Breen, CFO for South County Hospital Healthcare System, Scott McCaughey, Vice President, Commercial Lending for Washington Trust and James Hagerty, Executive Vice President & Chief Lending Officer for Washington Trust.

The Campaign for Cancer Care aims to raise $6.5 million in support of South County Hospital’s planned Community Cancer Center, which will encompass a new chemotherapy infusion center with adjacent offices for physicians and other care team members.  The Center will also offer breast tomosynthesis, or 3-D mammography, as well as Reiki and other complementary therapies. As is currently the case, all patients will be guided through diagnosis and treatment by experienced oncology nurses who serve as patient navigators. South County Hospital’s cancer services are accredited with commendation by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.

“Washington Trust has long been a strong supporter of the work we do here at South County Hospital and we are deeply grateful for its generous contribution to our Campaign for Cancer Care,” said South County Hospital President/CEO Louis Giancola. “We share a commitment of stewardship to the people of this community. With Washington Trust’s help and that of all our other Campaign donors, South County Hospital Healthcare System is creating a facility that will make a significant difference in the lives of those with cancer.”
