Anchor Down Powered Up For The Wounded Warriors Project

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI – From classic Volkswagens to extreme outfitted Audis, over 200 cars turned out for the Annual Anchor Down Euro Car Show in North Kingstown, RI on June 14. Visitors from all over New England – and a few beyond – gathered in support of the Wounded Warrior Project.  Sampson’s Auto is pleased to announce proceeds of $5,550, an increase of more than $2,000 collected from last year’s show, are being donated to the U.S. war veterans’ charity organization.

Well over 90 percent of the automobiles on display boasted European models, making this year’s turnout the most authentically Euro yet. A sprinkling of bikes, American muscle and antique cars came along for the ride, too. Sampson’s Auto presented show awards to participants in 10 different categories:

  • The Anchor went to David Ferreira for a 1991 VW Corrado G60.
  • Top Volkswagen was claimed by Nuno DaCruz for a 1897 VW Scirocco 16V.
  • Top Audi was awarded to Andrew Tsang for a 2014 Audi SQ5.
  • Top Classic Non Euro went to Kenny VanDam for a 1965 Oldsmobile 442.
  • Top Non Euro was given to Patrick Carr for a1994 Nissan 300ZX.
  • Top Classic Euro was awarded to Frank Crump for a 1956 VW Buggy.
  • Top Euro Other was claimed by Scott Maclew for a 2001 BMW Z3.
  • Top Air Cooled walked away with Lincoln Babelo for a 1966 VW Bug.
  • Top Truck went to Tommy Marsden for a 1999 Chevy S10 Pickup.
  • Best Bike decorated a 2013 Triumph Thruxton.

Congratulations to the three war veterans that received a power scooter, donated by Power Chair Recyclers of New England. ​

Participants and attendees enjoyed filling up on local fare, thanks to Bravo Wood Fired Pizza, Buddy’s Hot Rod Dogs, Del’s Lemonade and Inside Scoop of North Kingstown. Billy Maine from The Sundance Band of RI and friends provided fun music in the sun throughout the day. A local band from North Kingstown High School also stepped up to the microphone to entertain the crowd.  Smiling children, some with their pet dogs, rounded out the fun family day.
