U.S. Small Business Administration and SCORE to Host Computer Security Workshop in Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE, RI – The U.S. Small Business Administration and the Rhode Island SCORE chapter are hosting a Computer Security Workshop for small businesses on Friday, June 28.  The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Joel Tobey Amphitheater at Amica Insurance on Route 116 in Lincoln, R.I.  The workshop is offered free of charge.

SBA and SCORE are teaming with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to present this workshop to help the small business owner increase information system security.

The program will teach business owners how to define information security; provide examples of common types of threats and understand how to determine the extent to which an organization should proactively address threats; learn common practices and procedures to operate more securely; and hear a basic explanation of current technologies used to reduce information security vulnerabilities and the resources available to strengthen information security.

The workshop will be presented by Richard Kissel, a nationally recognized expert in computer security and is a Senior Information Security Analyst for NIST.  For the past six years he has planned and conducted information security workshops for small business owners/operators across the country.

Seating is limited so pre-registration is required.  Register by calling the SBA Rhode Island District Office at (401) 528-4561, or by emailingMatthew.Spoehr@sba.gov.
