The State Ballet of Rhode Island Announces New Performance Schedule

PROVIDENCE, RI -– The State Ballet of Rhode Island, our state’s longest standing semi-professional civic ballet company, has announced its repertory and performance schedule for its 55th Emerald Anniversary Season! Venues are booked, costumes are being designed, choreographers are creating and dancers are rehearsing for what promises to be a true celebration of a momentous anniversary year for the company and its Artistic Director, Herci Marsden. SBRI has planned a wide range of full-length ballets and short ballet pieces, from beloved classics to contemporary new works.

October 11th, 2014 marks SBRI’s opening performance in collaboration with the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Research Foundation for the deeply emotional Flames of Hope Weekend in downtown Providence. New works are underway in preparation and SBRI could not be more honored to join the Foundation for a fourth year as a partner in spreading breast cancer awareness.

On December 12th and 13th, 2014, at Roberts Auditorium at RI College in Providence, SBRI performs its holiday tradition- Herci Marsden’s “Coppelia”. This enchanting and whimsical story of a dancing doll and the woes of young love will delight audiences of all ages. Opening night offers a pre-performance complimentary reception before a 7:30pm show time. Then, for kids, there a is “Tea Time in the Toy Shop” on Saturday with refreshments, tea, and dessert along with an exclusive visit from the show’s cast, followed by a backstage tour, all before the 1:30pm matinee.

SBRI is excited to announce a spring company premiere ballet, where SBRI’s six resident choreographers take on a large-scale collaboration with the full length work, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. Shakespeare’s classic comedy of a wild night where the worlds of humans and magical fairies collide, comes to life as SBRI’s talented cast, new costuming, and authentic choreography delights audiences both young and old. This performance on March 27 & 28, 2015, at 7:30pm and 1:30pm respectively, takes place at Roberts Auditorium at RI College in Providence. Following the 1:30pm matinee, the audience is invited to our “Meet and Greet Artists” complimentary reception.

Extending a tradition of no-cost community engagement through education and exciting performances, SBRI continues to offer their ever- popularProject Ballet Coffee Hour: “From Studio to Stage”, all presented in their historic ballet studio in Lincoln on Oct. 18, Nov. 15, March 14 and April 18 . At all four of this series of events, visitors have the unique opportunity to find out how a ballet is created, with topics ranging from the training of a dancer to the inspiration of a choreographer, all involving exciting music, lecture, visual performances, and a meet and greet with the dancers and staff. Each of the different coffee hours are free and offer complimentary refreshments.

To close the season, The State Ballet hosts their 12th Annual “Evening Under the Stars Wine & Food Tasting Garden Party” on the beautiful grounds of their rehearsal studio in Lincoln on May 28th, 2015.
