The Rhode Island Action Coalition for The Future of Nursing Launches Website

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Rhode Island Action Coalition for The Future of Nursing is excited to announce the launch of its new website, futureofnursingri.org. The Rhode Island Action Coalition is tasked with implementing the recommendations of the Institute of Medicine’s groundbreaking report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health.  The report was the culmination of a two-year study by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Institute of Medicine (IOM) to determine the changes necessary to ensure the nursing profession meets the rapidly changing needs of the modern healthcare system.  The Rhode Island Action Coalition is working to transform health care through nursing by mobilizing coalitions representing nurses, health providers, consumers, educators and businesses. The website will serve as an educational portal, informing stakeholders and visitors about the Rhode Island Action Coalition and its progress in implementing the IOM report’s recommendations.

Within the site, visitors can find information about the Coalition’s work groups, each tasked with implementing one of the Institute of Medicine report’s recommendations. These groups include initiatives in Workforce Data, Expanding Nurse Leadership, Education Transformation, Advocacy, and Interprofessional Education. The site also details the numerous statewide partners that support the Action Coalition’s mission.  They include chronic and acute care providers, insurers, and academic institutions.

In providing a wealth of information about the Rhode Island Action Coalition’s mission, Coalition leaders hope to engage all Rhode Islanders in a discussion about nursing. Dr. Lynne Dunphy, Action Coalition Co-Lead, and Routhier Chair of Practice and Associate Dean for External Affairs at URI’s College of Nursing, says the site will be a valuable resource. “With the new website in place, we can inform Rhode Islanders about The Coalition’s important work and bring more stakeholders to the table to affect positive change.”

The Rhode Island Action Coalition for The Future of Nursing is a group of statewide stakeholders focused on implementing the changes recommended in the Institute of Medicine’s groundbreaking report The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health. Its membership consists of individuals working in a myriad of capacities in various healthcare organizations throughout Rhode Island. Together they will improve the practice of nursing in the state.
