The Matty Fund For Epilepsy Now Accepting Registrations for Camp Matty Scheduled for July 8 – 11 in Ashaway, RI

WAKEFIELD, RI – The Matty Fund for Epilepsy is accepting applications for this summer’s Camp Matty, a therapeutic horseback riding program designed for children with epilepsy. The day camp affords children with epilepsy the opportunity to learn horseback riding in a safe environment with trained personnel supported by parents and volunteers.

The day camp begins on Monday, July 8 and ends Thursday, July 11 and will be held at the Angels on Horseback Therapeutic Riding Center in Ashaway, RI. This camp is the second Camp Matty organized in 2013 by The Matty Fund. A camp was held this past April in Cranston. Camp Matty is free to children and families living with epilepsy. A camp application can be found online at www.mattyfund.org.

Horseback riding is considered a uniquely beneficial form of therapy. The physical benefits of muscle strengthening and improved coordination are paralleled by the social and psychological benefits of the program. The activities are designed to foster a sense of teamwork and friendship among the children. Camp Matty also has tremendous impact on the parents and caregivers who accompany their children each day of the camp. They focus on their children having fun in a safe and accessible environment and connect to other parents who share similar life experiences.

The Matty Fund is Rhode Island’s only epilepsy resource center for children and families. The Matty Fund provides free workshops, statewide support groups, and family events. The mission of The Matty Fund is to provide family resources, raise awareness, promote patient safety
