Pods Swimming Plans to Build New Indoor Pool Facility in East Providence

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – Pods Swimming Inc., a privately owned, traveling instructional swim program, has announced plans to build its own indoor pool facility at the corner of Route 44 and Commercial Way in East Providence.

The eight-year-old swim school is planning to break ground on a state-of-the-art, indoor pool facility that will be built by New England Construction. Designed by Vision 3 Architects, the 12,000 s/f building will have as its centerpiece a six-lane, 25-yard training pool plus a smaller, 90-degree heated “teaching” pool. Other amenities include a family changing room, locker rooms, a snack bar, reception area, and office space.

The new building will serve as headquarters for Pods Swimming and provide a permanent base for year-round lessons and other swim events. It will also be available for rental to schools, senior centers and other organizations throughout Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts.

Founded in 2007 by Susan Pascale-Frechette, Pods Swimming offers swim lessons for all ages, from babies and toddlers to adults. Pods features a curriculum based on personalized instruction for proper strokes and other techniques designed to build strong, confident swimmers. No flotation devices are used, so the swimmer is able to feel the water in the most natural position.

“For the past eight years, we have been traveling from pool to pool in order to provide quality swim lessons in the Greater Providence area. However, we feel strongly that we need our own permanent pool facility where we can provide a stable environment for our swimmers, our families and our staff,” says Pascale- Frechette.

“There is a limited number of indoor pools in Rhode Island, so this will provide the local area with a spacious, state-of-the-art indoor pool facility that can be leased for use by students, seniors, physical therapists, private swim teams, and corporate or private events,” says Jamie Pascale, program manager for Pods Swimming.

Pods Swimming intends to build the pool project through a combination of private bank loans and money raised through crowdfunding on the website Open.Tilt.com. On Monday, August 31, Pods launched its campaign, “Build-A-Pool For Pods,” and is accepting donations from supporters.
