Buttonwood Park Zoo’s “Boo at the Zoo” Screams Family Fun in October

NEW BEDFORD, MA – Sure to be a treat for the entire family, Buttonwood Park Zoo is busy preparing for its annual “Boo at the Zoo” which starts this Friday-Sunday, October 9th-11th from 6:00-9:00 p.m. and then continues the weekends of the 16th-18th and 23rd-25th and Friday the 30th.  The event, sponsored by Bristol County Savings Bank (BCSB), promises to provide slightly scary fun for children of all ages.  In lieu of the former Haunted Trail, kids can climb aboard the new Spooky Safari Express train ride which will re-enter the zoo this year.  Also, enjoy a ghostly carousel ride, try to find your way out of the hay maze and get up close and personal with some creepy crawly creatures in the Land of Misunderstood Animals located inside the Wildlife Education Center.  Other popular destinations will be a mythological world in the Aquatics Building and expanded candy treat stations!  Families are encouraged to bring their own “trick or treat” bags.  All the proceeds from “Boo at the Zoo” support the Zoo’s educational and family programs.

Also new this year is Baby Boo at the Zoo, which will take place on Friday, October 30th from 10:00 a.m. – Noon.  All children are invited to enjoy a variety of fun activities, including a costume contest, a Halloween parade and a number of exciting animal encounters.

“The success of Boo at the Zoo, our major annual fundraiser, is vital to ensuring that all of our programs continue to expand so we encourage everyone to come see us this month and have fun getting a little spooked,” said Jean-Marie Doyle, Event and Volunteer Coordinator for the Buttonwood Park Zoological Society.  “In addition to our traditional Boo at the Zoo activities, we are looking forward to seeing families enjoy our new Halloween-themed rides and programming thanks in part to our major sponsor, Bristol County Savings Bank.”

“We are sponsoring Boo at the Zoo for a seventh straight year so I know I speak for our entire team of volunteers when I say we’re proud to be part of this fun Halloween tradition for local families as it goes a long way towards supporting the zoo’s annual education programs,” said Patrick Murray, President & CEO of Bristol County Savings Bank.

Admission to “Boo at the Zoo” is as follows: Members: $10 adults and $7 children; Nonmembers: $15 adults and $12 children; under age 3 is free.  For those looking to avoid the lines, Bat Passes are available at regular prices online or in the North Woods Gift Store.  Each pass is a single use, non-refundable ticket that can be used for any night of the Boo at the Zoo event.  Please be aware that attendees must print out their receipt or show their emailed receipt on a smartphone.  For more information, visit www.bpzoo.org or call (508) 991-4556 Ext. 19.  Buttonwood Park Zoo is located at 425 Hawthorn Street, New Bedford, MA 02740.
