NEWPORT, RI — Swipe for a Cause and Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island (HHCRI) announced a new partnership today that will allow them to reach more patients and families and provide greater access to the quality end-of-life care that everyone deserves.  Based in Newport, RI, Swipe for a Cause is one of RI’s leading social ventures.  Swipe for a Cause does merchant processing and donates its profits to hospice care.  HHCRI, one of the Top 100 hospice providers in the nation, the second oldest hospice in America and Rhode Island’s largest hospice, is also the major teaching affiliate for hospice and palliative medicine of the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
The partnership brings together HHCRI’s expertise in the field of hospice care, with Swipe for a Cause’s hospice fundraising mechanism to pursue a shared mission of expanding hospice care in Newport and New England.  Under the new partnership, Swipe for a Cause will donate 5 percent of its monthly gross revenues, and 100 percent of its annual net profits, to help HHCRI meet its mission.   The groups’ partnership will generate additional resources and raise awareness for greater access to hospice and palliative care.  It also will  allow Swipe for a Cause to continue to explore the feasibility of establishing a hospice house on Aquidneck Island, which was their main goal when forming.

“HHCRI is a national leader when it comes to hospice and palliative care,” said Margaret Kinnecom, Owner/Partner at Swipe for a Cause.  “This agreement means that, going forward the hospice needs of Newport, Rhode Island and beyond will have the support of the merchant community.  Partnering with such a leader in hospice care should help us to get even more merchants behind supporting hospice through their processing.”

“We believe that working together with HHCRI, makes our support of hospice even stronger.  We will be contributing to hospice right now instead of waiting until after we have explored the possibilities of building a hospice house. We feel good about that.  We are very excited about this new partnership,” Kinnecom added.

Diana Franchitto, President & CEO of HHCRI said, “We are thrilled to announce this new partnership with Swipe for a Cause.  Both of our organizations share a deep commitment to caring for people who are seriously ill and need the kind of comprehensive hospice and palliative care that HHCRI can provide.”

“Swipe has developed a generous and unique way to focus the merchant community on hospice in a truly meaningful and important way,” she added. “We are extremely grateful to have them as a new partner.”

About Swipe for a Cause

Swipe for a Cause is the only merchant processor that donates all its profits to charity.  Like all merchant processors, Swipe for a Cause is able to lower merchants’ rates.  Unlike any other merchant processor, the company then gives 5% of the profits monthly and 100% of profits annually to hospice.  Swipe for a Cause is an Independent Sales Organization for First Data, the country’s largest merchant processor.  The company provides free marketing materials to merchants so their customers know a portion of every credit card sale goes to hospice.  The goal is to increase merchants’ revenues.  This year Swipe for a Cause was voted Entrepreneur of the Year by the Newport County Chamber of Commerce.
