Subaru of New England to Sponsor ADA’s New England Tour de Cure for Spring/Summer 2014

FRAMINGHAM, MA – The American Diabetes Association (ADA) of New England is pleased to announce that Subaru of New England will continue in its third consecutive year to regionally sponsor the organization’s New England Tour de Cure bicycling events in the Spring and Summer of 2014.

Individuals and teams composed of family, friends and co-workers are taking the ride of their life and helping raise funds to change the future of diabetes for nearly 26 million Americans with the disease.  The Tour de Cure events are designed for everyone from the occasional bike rider to the experienced cyclist with routes ranging from 3 mile family rides to 100 mile Century Rides.  The ADA of New England hosts a total of five Tour de Cure fundraising events:

  • North Shore Tour de Cure (Topsfield, MA):  May 18, 2014
  • Kennebunks Tour de Cure (Wells, ME):  June 8, 2014
  • Connecticut Tour de Cure (Durham, CT):  June 8, 2014
  • Ocean State Tour de Cure (Narragansett, RI):  June 1, 2014
  • New England Classic (Woburn, Ma – multi-state, two day or seven day event):  July 12-18, 2014

“Subaru of New England has been a wonderful partner in our New England Tour de Cure events, and we are thrilled to be working together in another great year,” stated Chris Boynton, Executive Director for the New England Chapter of the American Diabetes Association.  “Their support and promotion throughout the region helps us to extend further awareness of the seriousness of diabetes and also spread the message of hope as we pedal together to Stop Diabetes.”

It is estimated that 25.8 million Americans have diabetes, and another 79 million people have pre-diabetes. Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life.  It is estimated that 5-10% of Americans who are diagnosed with diabetes have type 1 diabetes, while 90-95% have type 2 diabetes.

“We are proud to sponsor the Tour de Cure to recognize the work of the New England chapter of the American Diabetes Association,” stated Ernie Boch Jr., President and CEO of Subaru of New England. “We invite cyclists and volunteers across New England to join us in the Tour de Cure event nearest you to show your support in the fight against this disease.  Each event raises awareness for this debilitating disease affecting so many children and adults every day.”
