Small Business Snapshot Contest to Showcase Passionate, Personal Side of Small Business Ownership

PROVIDENCE, RI – Small business owners are invited to share their story and showcase their business in a We Are Small Business Snapshot Contest on Facebook.  The contest, presented by Quill and Cursor with support from the Rhode Island Small Business Journal, is intended to shine a spotlight on the passionate and personal side of small business ownership and offers the winner $4,000 in marketing services and advertising.

“Being a small business owner myself, I know how deep the passion and commitment to your business is; it’s your dream.  I’m fortunate to work with some really amazing small business owners and the deeply personal connection they have to what they do is common among them all,” says Laura Dunn, owner of Quill and Cursor, an integrated marketing communications consultancy based in northeast CT.

“I wanted to connect with more of them and also showcase that deep connection.  You often hear the phrase ‘We “heart” small business.’  But as owners we don’t just “heart” our small business, we are our small business,” she says.

To enter, small business owners should visit facebook.com/QuillAndCursor and click on the contest link at the top of the page to submit a photo and caption that captures why their passion is their profession, their job is their journey and why it’s not just what they do, but who they are.

Entries are being accepted through September 17.  Voting opens to the public on September 18 and lasts through October 1.  The contest is open to all small business owners in Rhode Island and surrounding areas of Connecticut and Massachusetts.

The entry with the most votes will receive $1,500 in marketing, web or social media services from Quill and Cursor and $2,500 in publicity and advertising space from the Rhode Island Small Business Journal, including a full-page feature article.

Dunn says she hopes the contest will turn into a great way to showcase local businesses just ahead of the holiday shopping season, as well as an inspiring look at small business owners that will be shared on both Facebook and her own website.

“There are so many inspiring stories and lessons of strength and perseverance that come with the journey that every small business owner has to take,” she says.  “I think to shine a spotlight on those who are braving that journey to follow their dreams, despite how hard it can be, is a wonderful thing.  It’s those stories that made me believe I could do it myself.  And I hope this contest serves to pass that conviction on to someone else.”
