Simulia Corporation Tops 4th Annual Woony River Ride

PROVIDENCE, RI – Members of the Dassault Systemes, Simulia Corporation Team were the top fundraisers in the September 21st Woony River Ride. The ride begins in Providence and follows the Woonasquatucket River to North Smithfield and back for the 50 mile course. This year’s ride was enjoyed by over 275 riders choosing from the 50, 27, 10 or 5 mile courses.

Riders who raised funds were rewarded with helmet covers representing fish that live in the Woonasquatucket River. $500 + fundraisers received the gold “Golden Shiner” cover; $250 + the silver “Alewife Herring” and $100 + the blue “Bluegill”. (Pictured Below)

The Simulia Team also has the honor of exhibiting the coveted Golden Herring Award (above) in their offices for the next twelve months. They will pass the award to the 2014 top fundraising team at the 5th annual ride in September next year.  The award brings attention to successful increases in the herring population in the river by the WRWC.

The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) has revitalized one of 14 American Heritage Rivers in the country. The industrial pollution has been reduced to allow canoeing, kayaking and in some parts of the watershed, swimming.

The WRWC built and revitalized three urban parks in Providence, Riverside, Merino and Donigian Parks are now safely used by children and their families. The WRWC offers participation in many events on or near the river. Paddling, biking and walking along the historic areas of Providence’s only off-road, urban bike path and the Woonasquatucket, the Waterfire River.

Alicia Lehrer, Executive Director of the WRWC stated, “This year’s Woony River Ride was certainly the best ever! We look forward to next year’s event and all the wonderful ways Rhode Islanders can enjoy the Woonasquatucket River.”
