CRANSTON, RI – More than 60 stakeholders from around the state joined RIMP and the Cranston Attendance Counts! Task Force on Thursday for a workshop to discuss the issues surrounding absenteeism in Rhode Island and the innovative approaches being undertaken to combat it.
Guests heard from RI Education Commissioner Deborah Gist, Cranston School Superintendent Dr. Judy Lundsten, Cranston School Data Coordinator Dr. Rosemary Burns, RI Kids Count analyst Stephanie Geller, Cranston High School East student Emily Nunez, Sue Thomas, RIMP’s Senior Director of Training and Program Development, and Shameem Awan, Vice Chair of the RIMP Board of Directors.
In addition to informative presentations from the distinguished panel of speakers, the extremely engaged crowd took part in a question and answer session.
RIMP joined the task force this past summer. Thanks to our years of experience with mentoring programs we know how important attendance is for students and we know that mentoring can and does have a major positive impact on the attendance rates of mentees.
Thank you to all those who took part in the workshop and be on the lookout for future Attendance Counts! Task Force efforts.
