Rhode Island’s Newest Coastal Community Puts Focus on Conservation

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI – East Matunuck Farms is setting itself apart from its surrounding neighborhoods by joining innovative design and conservation.  A Worden Pond Builders project, the new conservation development is located in the Snug Harbor area of East Matunuck and was designed with a sustainable focus.  The professional design team including Union Studio, John C. Carter & Company, and DiPrete Engineering, combined their talents to bring the project to life.

The neighborhood is located off of Snug Harbor’s Gooseberry Road with bike paths, parks and walking trails nearby.  Local marinas, beaches, a clear water pond and several restaurants are also within walking distance.

“East Matunuck Farms is a very tranquil place to live,” said Tony Fiore, President of Worden Pond Builders.  “The community offers 20 acres of open land and protection for its coastal ponds.  It’s a great example of how land can be conserved even while housing numerous families.”

Forty shingle style homes with nine different models make up the community.  All of the homes have open floor plans, entertainment areas, and are located on streets and cul-de-sacs.

With the help of Union Studio Architects, residents have the option to change their home’s layout.  An interior designer also works with new residents on choosing custom finishes, color schemes, and lighting to suit their style.

“This community is one of the most unique sustainable efforts we’ve worked on in quite some time,” said Eric Prive, Project Manager of DiPrete Engineering.  “Not only are the homes customized to the owner’s needs, they are situated in a beautiful area with a lot of recreational activity.”

DiPrete Engineering performed surveying, site engineering, and local/state permitting for the site.
