Rhode Island Society of CPAs Executive Director, Robert Mancini, Honored as Financial Services Champion by U.S. Small Business Administration

Society of Certified Public Accountants (RISCPA) Executive Director, Robert A. Mancini was recently selected as the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA), 2013 Rhode Island and New England Financial Services Champion Award winner.  The SBA awards are presented to 12 small business owners and advocates whose outstanding contributions to the Rhode Island small business community have earned them these accolades both at the state and regional level.

“I am extremely humbled and honored to have been chosen by the U.S. Small Business Administration for this award,” Mancini said at the luncheon. “I truly believe that our profession and the work of our members is so important to the individuals and communities we help.  I am dedicated to helping raise their profile and consider it a great privilege to lead this Society.”

Mancini has served as the RISCPA Executive Director since 2006. Since his appointment, membership has grown by 33 percent. Mancini also serves on a number of community advisory boards.  He is currently: the Secretary of the Gateway Real Estate Board; co-chair of the St. Jude Children’s Hospital corporate executive committee (RI Chapter); member of Bryant University and CCRI’s Business Advisory Boards; member of the Freedom National Bank’s Business Advisory Board; member of the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce Board; and a member of the Rhode Island Commodores.

One of four regional award winners, Mancini was honored during the annual Rhode Island Salute to Small Businesses awards luncheon today at Alpine Country Club in Cranston, RI.

“Bob Mancini has not only been a key leader for the CPA’s in Rhode Island, but more importantly he has been a staunch supporter of the small business community in Rhode Island and greater New England,” said Mark Hayward, District Director for the Rhode Island Small Business Administration.

Prior to his position at the Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants, Mancini spent over two decades in the banking and financial services sector, notably at Fleet Bank and Citizens Bank. In 1996, former Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Almond appointed Mancini to the Rhode Island Lottery Commission, where he served until 2005. Committed to the community, he has served as a volunteer to a number of charitable organizations across New England. Mancini holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Providence College and earned a certificate of completion from The New England School of Banking at Williams College.

“Bob has been a tremendous asset to our Society for many years.  His strong leadership, dedication and out of the box thinking has helped us grow our membership, programs and community outreach,” said Steven J. Ursillo Jr., Sparrow Johnson & Ursillo Inc. and President of the RISCPA board of directors. “We congratulate him on this special occasion and thank him for his tireless efforts,” he added.
