| Jan 29, 2014
PROVIDENCE, RI – The Rhode Island Foundation announced today that Michael K. Allio, CEO of Allio Associates LLC, will join its board of directors effective immediately.
A former deputy director of strategy and management at the Gates Foundation, Allio is an authority on strategy, measurement and implementation who offers more than 25 years of diverse operating and strategy consulting experience. He has delivered consulting services to a wide range of clients and industries.
“We are pleased to welcome Michael to our board. His impressive background and wealth of experience will help us continue to deliver on our strategic imperatives around leadership, philanthropy and learning,” said Fred Butler, the Foundation’s chairman.
Allio’s current client work spans the private and non-profit sectors. Recent projects include designing a portfolio of strategic communications tools for the Smithsonian Institution, business development strategies for an educational software firm and the launch strategy for a new Center of Innovation for Johnson & Wales University.
In addition to his consulting work, Allio is a senior advisor to the Swearer Center for Public Service at Brown University, where he teaches classes on philanthropy and social entrepreneurship. He also serves on the Board of the Social Enterprise Greenhouse and the Food Innovation Nexus.
“It is an honor to join the Foundation’s board. I am excited to become part of an organization that makes a real difference in the lives of Rhode Islanders. Strategic philanthropy will accelerate progress on key issues like public education and economic development — and by engaging partners, grantees, and donors we can together make lasting impact,” said Allio.
The Harvard University graduate was previously chairman and interim CEO of a development-stage biotech firm and a director and principal of an automotive manufacturing start-up. He returned from Seattle last year to be closer to extended family, and lives here in Providence with his wife and two sons.
