Providence Workforce Director Named to National Mayors’ Workforce Leadership Council

PROVIDENCE, RI –Robert L. Ricci, Esq., director of Workforce Solutions of Providence / Cranston and the capital city’s workforce office, has been named to the 2014 Board of Trustees of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Workforce Development Council (WDC) leadership. That announcement was made at the organization’s recent winter meeting in Washington, D.C.

The WDC is an integral part of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, providing policy and legislative recommendations on business and jobs development issues, and was established in 1977 to advise Congress and the U.S. Department of Labor, “to direct more employment and training funds to cities, identify key issues in workforce development that affect cities, and assure the role of cities is paramount in workforce development cities,” according to that national body.

“It is both important and prestigous to have the City of Providence represented on this respected Council, and to have a clear voice for our residents about the programs and initiatives necessary to address unemployment, job creation and job training,” said Mayor Taveras.

The Mayor noted that job development is a core element of his  20-point plan, Putting Providence Back to Work, and noted, “This is a select group of representatives who will help argue the case of cities like Providence and regions of the country disproportionately affected by the economic downturn, from which this state is still recovering, and we are lucky to have someone of Bob Ricci’s talent and experience recognized on this national stage,” Taveras said.
