New Cottages on Caswell Transform the Heart of Narragansett Pier

NARRAGANSETT, RI – Four new single-family cottages known as The Cottages on Caswell have been built on Caswell St. located in the heart of the Narragansett Pier.  The new cottages are conveniently located within walking distance to the beach, dining and shops and have transformed the neighborhood.

Originally home to several outdated, smaller houses used mainly as college rentals, the area presented a historic project that Jeff Sweenor and his team at Sweenor Builders could not turn down.

“I felt personally connected to this project, not only because I lived here during my college years at the University of Rhode Island, but also because of Narragansett’s rich history as a prominent summer destination,” said Jeff Sweenor, President and CEO of Sweenor Builders.

After acquiring the land from Davitt Design Build in 2013, Sweenor Builders built the homes with a vision to fit the fabric of the New England Victorian seaside village.

Sweenor collaborated with the town planning staff, historic commission, architect, engineers and interior designers in order to create a fitting but modern rebuild of the neighborhood.   Kristen Martone from Graceke Design was hired during the early stages of planning and design to craft a beach theme for the cottages, which helped to have the first unit ready for the 2014 spring market.

“From start to finish, the project was a success,” said Sweenor.  “Working with the builders, the town, and with Kristen and her team, was a great pleasure.  Everyone put in their best effort.

DiPrete Engineering provided surveying and design services on the project.

“We permitted and implemented low impact development stormwater techniques that added a functional and aesthetically pleasing element to the overall site design,” said Nicole Reilly, Senior Project Manager at DiPrete Engineering.  “The charming design elements on both the exterior and interior create a sense of harmony with the cottages coastal community.”

Each 2,300 square foot cottage boasts a mahogany porch as well as a detached two car garage and courtyard.  They also include four bedrooms, two full bathrooms and a powder room, and an enclosed outdoor shower.

“These cottages will provide families with a great vacation home where they can enjoy all that Narragansett has to offer while making long lasting memories,” said Sweenor.  “So far, we’ve had nothing but great feedback regarding the homes and we look forward to what the summer season will bring.”

The finished product led to the sale of all four units during this past summer at full asking price.  Three of the four buyers were from out of state and the other a Rhode Island family that summers in Narragansett.
