Mayors Taveras & Fung Hosts Eleventh in Series of Mayors’ Job Fairs at Roger Williams Park Casino

PROVIDENCE, RI – Mayor Angel Taveras and Mayor Allan Fung, in partnership with Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston, hosted the eleventh in a series of Mayors’ job fairs today at Roger Williams Park Casino in Providence.
Thirty banking, accounting, finance and insurance employers that are actively seeking employees accepted applications from more than 200 job candidates at the event.
“We must do everything in our power to help un- and underemployed residents find meaningful, stable work,” said Mayor Angel Taveras. “There is an urgent need for qualified workers, and we are committed to bringing those individuals together with our small businesses to address both the needs of industry and residents seeking a new job or career.”
“I applaud the efforts of the folks at Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston, their mission exemplifies my commitment to getting Rhode Islanders back to work. This financial services job fair provides a forum where employers can meet as many job seekers as possible so that they can select the best qualified candidates,” said Mayor Fung.
Today’s event was the eleventh in a series of Mayors’ job fairs organized by Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston. The events are free, open to the public, and are industry-specific. The previous seven fairs included industry-specific events for health care; construction; hospitality and tourism; military; education and information technology; manufacturing, and retail. More than 250 businesses and over 1,500 job applicants participated in the fairs. This year, three additional job fairs were held for substitute teachers, teacher assistants and staff for the Providence Public School District.
Companies participating in today’s event included: AAA Southern New England; Adecco; Admirals Bank; Aflac; American Income Life; Amica Life Insurance Company; Amica Mutual Insurance Company; BankRI; Bank of America; BankNewport; Citizens Bank; Express Employment Professionals; Harkins Wealth Management; Independent Insurance Agents of RI; Insure My Trip; John Hancock; Knights of Columbus; Neighborhood Health Plan of RI; New York Life; Northwestern Mutual; Operation Stand Down Rhode Island; Pioneer Financial Group; Primerica; Santander; The Beacon Mutual Insurance Company; The Greysmith Companies; Providence Public School District; Wealth Management Resource, Inc.; Webster Bank; World Financial Group, and Zip Recruiter.
Companies were accepting applications and pre-interviewing attendees for such positions as financial planners, customer service representatives, call center managers, software developers, full-time teachers, underwriters, accountants, sales representatives, bankers, tellers, sales, and management.
Other sponsors of today’s event included Hero2Hire, Employer Support for the Guard/Reserve, and the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training.
