Mayor Taveras and the U.S. Small Business Administration Meet With Dozens of Local Entrepreneurs for Kick-Off of 2nd Series of Free Workshops

PROVIDENCE, RI – Mayor Angel Taveras and the Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration, Rhode island District Office, Mark S. Hayward, kicked-off the second series of free business workshops hosted by the two agencies, the Center for Women & Enterprise and SCORE, before more than two dozen area entrepreneurs.

The event was held at the newly-opened Hatch Entrepreneurial Center, on Weybosset Street in the heart of the downtown. It was the first of the 2nd series of workshops offered, and opened with a brief networking event hosted by Daniel Murphy and the owners of the Hatch Center.

“Providence is a great city for start-ups and entrepreneurs,” said Mayor Taveras. “The Hatch Center is a wonderful example of how much interest there is in locating in Providence and launching a business here,” he said. “We are delighted to be working with the SBA once again in this unique and valuable partnership.”

“The U.S. Small Business Administration is pleased join Mayor Taveras and the City of Providence to co-sponsor this series of important workshops for the small business community,” said Hayward.  “Working with our resource partners SCORE and the Center for Women & Enterprise, we will continue to provide the tools that entreperneurs need to start, grow and succeed.”

An initial series of workshops has been planned. The schedule is as follows, with each of these workshops will be held at the Hatch Center, 244 Weybosset Street, Providence (3rd floor):

Spring Break: Workshops for Entrepreneurs & Start-ups

April 8, 10, 11

10 am – 12 noon

 

Additional workshops will be scheduled for the rest of the year, in the next month.

 

At the two-hour workshops, attendees meet with representatives of city, state and federal government and quasi-public agencies to learn about:

  • Accessing working capital
  • Becoming government contractors & accessing tax incentives
  • Developing strategies to prevent loss & grow their bottom line
  • Network with other business owners
