Local Communications Company Assists Community Center to Meet Goal: 260 Turkeys in 16 Days

CRANSTON, RI – Since 1884, Nickerson Community Center has opened its doors to the Olneyville community. They offer support with social service programs that engage the neighborhood, enhance residents’ quality of life, and empower people to create waves of positivity and change. A couple weeks before Thanksgiving, all of Nickerson Community Center’s turkey donations fell through. Having worked on NCC’s website over the summer, 3am Writers felt a responsibility to reach out to the community through social media and was able to help fulfill NCC’s holiday food needs.

So who were the generous donors? One person chose to remain anonymous, but donated 100 turkeys! The anonymous donor heard about the dilemma while visiting one of 3am Writers’ contacts, Holistic Health RI, and decided to help out. Another donor was 3am Writers’ client Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk, who donated two vans full of groceries, including 30 turkeys and other assorted items to complete a traditional Thanksgiving meal. “I was proud of my staff for coming together so quickly to make a difference for families in Olneyville,” said Scott Birtles, General Manager of Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk.

Many people also chose to donate money and gift cards to Nickerson to help out. Each turkey was about $20, and Nickerson needed 260 turkeys, which costs about $5,000! From $20 donations to $100 donations, the public graciously came together. “Nickerson Community Center would like to thank all of the donors for their generous gifts,” said Amy Feucht, Director of Operations. “You gave Olneyville families a memorable Thanksgiving–one that wouldn’t have been possible without your help.”

3am Writers was excited to see so many people respond to their calls for help: “When we heard about what was happening, we knew we had to do something. I wrote a blog on Patch, shared it on Facebook, and received a lot of feedback from people looking to help. I was also extremely touched to see how many of my own clients and contacts came forward. It just goes to show the strength of community, especially during the holidays,” owner Aileen McDonough said.
