LEGAL TECH Series to Bring Expertise, Experience to Evolving Roles of IT and Law

Providence, R.I. –Tech Collective, Rhode Island’s IT and Bioscience industry association, introduces its 2013 LEGAL TECH series. The series will bring expertise and experience to offer education and best practices surrounding the evolving role of technology in business and how to ensure legal understanding and compliance. The LEGAL TECH series is sponsored by the law firm of Duffy & Sweeney, LTD.

The first in a series of five forums will discuss Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), including data retention and security, the pros and cons of implementing a BYOD policy, and the laws and regulations implicated by such policies. The session will be held on Thursday, April 25th, 2013 at the Rhode Island Foundation.

Future LEGAL TECH forums will feature: cloud computing, internships, non-competes and assignment of inventions, and biotech compliance and regulation.

“As technology continues to play an increasingly central role in business and productivity, the lines of personal and professional become blurry, as do the lines of technology and legal liabilities,” said Kathie Shields, executive director of Tech Collective. “While the industry has not yet written the definitive handbook on law and IT, the LEGAL TECH series, with the knowledge and leadership of Duffy & Sweeney, aims to offer some clarity and best practices surrounding these issues.”
