Hilary Salk Event at Books on the Square

RI AUTHOR, HILARY SALK, TO SPEAK AT BOOKS ON THE SQUARE IN PROVIDENCE
Hilary Salk, author of “Eavesdropping in Oberammergau” will speak at Books on the Square, 471 Angell Street, Wayland Square, Providence on Sunday, March 18th at 4pm.
Salk is a graduate of Brown University, earned a masters on English from Brown and MSW from RI College. She contributed to an early edition of Our Bodies, Ourselves, and had a short story published in The Jewish Women’s Literary Annual 2011.

Salk founded the Rhode Island Women’s Health Collective in 1976, ran for governor of Rhode Island in 1982, and was a broker for Salk Real Estate, Providence, RI, for 25 years. She lives with her husband in Narragansett, RI and has two adult children and five granddaughters.

Salk’s novel draws on her experiences as an American Jewish girl living with her parents in Germany three years after the Holocaust. The book is based on the Oberammergau community in Germany where, every 10 years, The Passion Play is performed, with all actors from the community.  Her book’s revision anticipates Passion Play 2020, the next time the play will be performed, and people will travel from throughout the world to this part of Germany.
