Gloria Gemma Foundation Teams Up With P-Bruins For ‘Pink In The Rink’ Friday

PAWTUCKET, RI – (October 25, 2012) This Friday night, October 26 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, the Providence Bruins will skate against the Springfield Falcons in the 3rd Annual “Pink In The Rink” night to benefit the Pawtucket-based Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.

“We applaud the Providence Bruins for helping us in our mission to support local women and families all year long,” said Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation Executive Director Maria Gemma. “October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we want Rhode Islanders to know that their contributions to our organization go to local programs and services we provide throughout greater Rhode Island.”

“People make an effort to buy local meat, produce, and even arts and crafts,” reasoned Gemma. “With ‘Pink In The Rink,’ the Foundation and the Providence Bruins are encouraging Rhode Islanders to give locally with this fun family event.”

With the unfortunate delay in the 2012 National Hockey League season, and doubts as to whether players and owners will reach an agreement at all this year, the Providence Bruins are eager to put on a show this year and especially Friday night, according to #21, Bobby Robins.

“It’s always great to give back to the community and support an honorable Foundation like Gloria Gemma,” said Robins, who plays center. “All the guys get really fired up because it’s obviously a good cause.”

At “Pink In The Rink,” Robins and his teammates trade their usual black and gold jerseys for pink and white in a supportive nod to patients and survivors in attendance and all over the state

“Everybody’s wearing pink and there’s a lot of energy in the building,” said Robins. “It’s always a very exciting night.”

Several 2013 “Celebrate Hope, Celebrate Life” Calendar survivor models will be at the game distributing calendars. The theme of the 2013 calendar is “Breast cancer is not just your grandmother’s disease” and each survivor model received a breast cancer diagnosis before the age of 40.

Newport’s “Four Horsemen” will be on hand to present a check to the Foundation, the result of a unique beard growing challenge among the friends. In 2011, the group donated $2,000 to the Foundation and, this year, they doubled their hairy haul raising over $4,000.

The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. All 100 level tickets are $22 and all 200 level tickets are $17 with $5 of each ticket sold going to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation. All fans in attendance will receive a pink rally towel courtesy of Graftek Systems, Susan T. Perkins, WEEI 103.7FM Providence, and NBC 10. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visithttp://www.providencebruins.com/Tickets/employee or call 401-273-5004
