Gina Raimondo Kicks Off Financial Literacy Month

PROVIDENCE, RI – General Treasurer Gina Raimondo kicked off Financial Literacy Month by joining Admirals Bank’s Chief Executive Officer Nick Lazares to honor the first graduates of the Admirals Bank Financial Scholars Program. The goal of this new program is to bring financial literacy education into all Providence public high schools. Students from Central High School and the Providence Career and Technical Academy were recognized today.

“It is more important than ever to arm every Rhode Islander with the skills to make sound financial decisions,” Raimondo said. “From encouraging online financial literacy options for students, to growing our Financial Coaching Corps, we are working to provide financial peace of mind to Rhode Island’s families and helping to move our whole state forward.”

The Admirals Bank Financial Scholars Program partners with EverFi, an innovative web-based curriculum that uses the latest new-media technologies – video, animations, 3-D gaming, avatars, and social networking – to bring complex financial concepts to life for students. Every public high school in Providence can certify students in financial literacy thanks to Admiral Bank’s sponsorship of this initiative.

“Admirals Bank is committed to contributing to the success of the Providence community,” said Admirals Bank CEO Nicholas Lazares. “This is why we are so proud to sponsor EverFi and bring their innovative financial literacy education program to all of the public high schools in Providence, so every student can learn the critical financial skills necessary for a bright future.”

Treasury will participate in Financial Literacy Month events throughout Rhode Island. Locations include: Cranston, East Providence, Greenville, Johnston, Newport, Providence, Smithfield, Westerly and Woonsocket. For a complete list of activities and to learn more, visit
