David Maher Elected Chair of the New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce

NEW BEDFORD, MA – David Maher was elected Chair of the Board of Directors of the New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce at the Chamber’s 128th Annual Meeting and Business Luncheon on November 13, 2014.

Mr. Maher is the Senior Manager of Quality & Mission Success at Lockheed Martin Sippican, Inc. located in Marion, Massachusetts. Lockheed Martin Sippican is the leading manufacturer of Countermeasure Systems, Sea-Air Systems, and Underwater Vehicles. Founded in the 1940s, the company made its mark revolutionizing the Bathythermograph by creating an expendable model that ships could use while underway. To date, the company has manufactured over six million XBT’s for navies and scientific institutions around the world.

Mr. Maher has served on the Chamber Board of Directors for several years and has held several leadership positions including Chair-Elect and Vice Chair of Government Affairs. As the new Chamber Chair, Mr. Maher will work with the Board, Chamber staff, and membership to champion the Chamber in its mission to serve the region’s business community.

He succeeds Mary Harrington, President of South Coast Consulting LLC of Mattapoisett, who now moves to the position of Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Directors.

The New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce is a private, non-profit business association based in the City of New Bedford, Massachusetts. Chartered in 1885, the Chamber serves nearly 1000 member businesses of all sizes from virtually all industries in the ten communities of New Bedford, Acushnet, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Freetown, Mattapoisett, Marion, Rochester, Wareham, and Westport. The Chamber supports and promotes the local business community through leadership in public advocacy, education, networking, information, and community development.
