Building Bones & Balance Class Coming Soon to Innerlight Center

MIDDLETOWN, RI – A brand new class designed for anyone interested in maintaining and building bone strength and balance begins at the Innerlight Center for Yoga and Meditation on Friday, September 6. It is scheduled to run through December and drop-ins are welcome. Certified yoga teachers Maggie Martin and Kathy Glaser will alternately lead the class.

The class, based on the poses recommended in Dr. Loren Fishman’s book Yoga for Osteoporosis, explores yoga poses that focus on bone strength, muscle strength and balance, with a deep connection to breath. A range of modifications, using props and chairs are offered for each student’s individual needs.

Because the benefit of these poses is derived from regularly practicing them, the class also prepares students to begin a home practice utilizing the poses within a reasonable time investment.

Dr. Loren Fishman conducted a two year study where he tracked a group of people who were diagnosed with either osteoporosis or osteopenia. The group practiced 10 yoga poses for 10 minutes every day for two years. Upon completion of the study, an astounding 85% of the group improved bone density!

The Innerlight Center is located at 850 Aquidneck Avenue in the Aquidneck Commons complex. Learn more or sign up in advance by visiting www.innerlightcenter.com or calling 401 849-3200.
