Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island Provides Tools to Support RI Residents in Choosing Health Coverage through Open Enrollment Period

PROVIDENCE, RI – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCSRI) today announced a series of steps designed to support all Rhode Island residents in choosing health coverage and maintaining healthy lives. BCBSRI will continue operations of its Warwick retail location in response to ongoing demand from consumers and supporting individuals who may be choosing insurance before the end of open enrollment on March 31. In addition, it has developed and is distributing Healthcare Basics, a comprehensive guide to understanding healthcare in Rhode Island.

“We have found that both current and potential members are eager to have the opportunity to meet face to face to discuss and understand the variety of new health insurance options on the market,” said Mike Hudson, Chief Financial Officer. “This is an important service, and we are pleased to continue it.”

Healthcare Basics, a 12 page informational booklet, provides consumers with information critical to understanding their healthcare choices, including: who works in healthcare, how to stay healthy, why health and dental insurance is important, and definitions of healthcare terms.

Healthcare Basics will be available at BCBSRI headquarters in Providence, the retail location in Warwick, and at the BCBSRI Community Health & Wellness Screenings throughout the open enrollment period. A full list of the Community Health & Wellness Screenings from now until the end of open enrollment can be found below.

“Based on the questions we receive, it is clear that many individuals and families – from those who will be insured for the first time to small business owners with one or two employees – have basic questions about how healthcare works,” said Bobby Rodriguez, Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion. “Healthcare Basics is designed to fill that gap and help create more informed consumers of healthcare services in this state.”

The retail office, located at 300 Quaker Lane, Warwick, is staffed Monday-Friday from 8:30AM-5:00PM and Saturdays from 9:00AM-1:00PM. Personnel are able to provide detailed information about individual or family plan options, products available both direct from BCBSRI and via HealthSource RI.
