Adoption Rhode Island Celebrates National Adoption Month at the State House

PROVIDENCE, RI – In celebration of National Adoption Month, Adoption Rhode Island will hold their annual State House Ceremony to celebrate adoption, raise awareness about the children who wait, and recognize selected Rhode Island community members and adoption professionals for their support of the hundreds of children in RI state care hoping to someday have a family to call their own. The inspiring event will take place on Wednesday, November 18 from 5:00-7:30pm at the RI State House. This heartwarming ceremony is extra special as we will introduce Rhode Island’s 11th Annual Heart Gallery, a powerful exhibit of portraits of children in need of loving permanent families, put together with the help of several Rhode Island small businesses and photographers.  Adoption RI’s theme for the coming year and featured during the State House event is “Every Child Deserves a Childhood”.  It is our hope that community members will feel the impact of this reality and recognize that, even if one cannot adopt, everyone has something to give to a child in foster care as he/she waits for that forever family.

As we unveil the Heart Gallery many of the children featured will be on hand to see their portraits for the very first time and to reconnect with the local photographers who donated their time and talent to create such a beautiful memory for each child. Others in attendance will feel the magic of the Heart Gallery, witnessing the hope in the eyes of these children, children who dare to dream that this will be the year that they will be blessed with a family as a result of the Heart Gallery, like so many children have in years past.

The Rhode Island Heart Gallery will continue spreading magic to thousands of people as it tours Rhode Island throughout the year. Everywhere the Heart Gallery is displayed, new people come forward to become a visiting resource, a foster parent, to find out more about adoption or to begin the process. Others have reached out to help the children by volunteering or sharing a talent or skill. Some feel a compelling bond with a particular child. And most exciting, some families have gone on to be a “forever family” to some of the children.

The evening will also include a brief speaking program, an Award Ceremony honoring valued supporters, and more.  It promises to be a night to remember. We invite the press and public and members of the media to join us for this free event. For more event details, please contact Donna Rivera at Adoption Rhode Island, or 401-865-6000.
