9th Annual Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival Announces Daily Seminars

NEWPORT, RI ­– The much-anticipated Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival announced today its official seminar lineup, offering guests the chance to experience some of the greatest wines from all over the world without leaving Newport. From tasting and buying wine to pairing the perfect cheese, the seminars at this year’s Festival will cater to all. Seminars will be offered each day of the Festival, taking place from Friday, September 19th – Sunday, September 21st. Friday seminars will be presented at the Hyatt Regency Newport.. New this year, the Saturday and Sunday seminars will be presented inside the elegant Chinese Tea House on the grounds of Marble House, eliminating the need to travel back and forth to the Grand Tastings.

 

In addition to the variety of seminars, the Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival weekend will include Grand Tastings on Saturday and Sunday featuring hundreds of wines, a Wine & Rosecliff  gala, a Collectible Wine Dinner, an exclusive Sunday brunch, and many celebrated speakers and chefs, including Martha Stewart and Sara Moulton.

Kicking off the Friday seminars is author and epicurean Lou Di Palo, who will speak about what he knows best – the Essential Foods of Italy. Di Palo will take guests on a gourmet excursion through Italy’s distinct regions and share a lifetime of wisdom about the cuisine beloved around the world.

Next,  follow acclaimed wine and spirits writer Jordan MacKay In Pursuit of Balance and discover what makes a balanced California Pinot Noir. Closing the first day of seminars is Megan Krigbaum, Senior Wine Editor of  FOOD & WINE, with Wine 101. Krigbaum will take guests on a delicious journey through various kinds of wine while answering questions about how to taste, identify, buy and pair wines.

 

Lou Di Palo will return to kick off  Saturday morning at the Chinese Tea House with a guided tasting to uncover the magic behind Italy’s two most coveted ingredients, Olive Oil & Balsamic Vinegar. Guests will leave with first-hand knowledge of production methods, regional influence and history, and how to taste and use these ingredients at home.  For white wine lovers looking to learn more about reds, Helen Morrison, winemaker at Villa Maria Estate,will presentLooking Beyond Sauvignon Blanc: New Zealand’s Red Wine Revolution.  Guests will have the opportunity to taste a variety of Villa Maria’s red wines, including Pinot Noirs and Cabernet/Merlot blends. In the final Saturday seminar titled Quintessa Rocks & Dirt, Quintessa Vineyard Estate Director and Master Sommelier Larry Stone will take guests on a journey through the formation of the Napa Valley and the Quintessa Vineyard, and discuss the impact the rocks and dirt at Quintessa have on the wine. Attendees will taste barrel samples from the estate’s distinctive vineyard blocks, as well as two of the vineyard’s vintages.

 

On Sunday , Kistler Vineyards Director of Sales and Marketing Geoff Labitzke demonstrates how bottle age affects style and character development   inKistler Chardonnay: California’s Ultimate Terroirs.  If you want to know which Bordeaux best represents Sean Connery or Daniel Craig, Bond’s Bordeaux withPhilippe Newlin is not to be missed! The Director of  Duclot la Vinicole USA will examine major appellations of the classic Bordeaux and will pair each appellation with another classic: an actor from Ian Flemming’s Bond series. Mixologist Marshall  Altier will explore Italian drinking culture from ancient Roman times to present day in the final seminar of the weekend, Cocktail Italia.

 

Seminar tickets can be purchased via phone at (401) 847-1000 ext. 140, Monday through Friday. Seminar tickets are not available online. A Grand Tasting ticket is required along with a seminar ticket for admission to Saturday and Sunday seminars.
