Rhode Island Business Plan Competition Teams with Bryant Marketing Association

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Rhode Island Business Plan Competition today announced that it is partnering with the Bryant Marketing Association, a volunteer, student-led group at Bryant University, to promote the 2015 competition with social media tools.

All events and news relating to the competition will be promoted via Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and a blog.

The 2015 Kick-Off event, held last evening at Betaspring in Providence, which attracted nearly 70 attendees, was “broadcast” live via Twitter, using the hashtag #ribizplan2015.

“We’re delighted to be working with the Bryant students, and we’re off to a strong start” said Peter Lowy, executive director of the Rhode Island Business Plan Competition. “They re energetic, resourceful, and creative, and, most importantly, committed to helping us spread the word about the competition”

The Rhode Island Business Plan Competition, New England’s leading community supported business plan competition, will culminate next May with the awarding of prizes expected to exceed $200,000 in value.

At the Kick-Off, the three winners of the 2014 competition told how they developed their business plans and shared key insights. They included the following:

  • David Bedard, of CompNet Insurance Solutions, winner of the Entrepreneur Track, said, “Give yourself ample time to review your financial projections, because they embody every element of your plan and how you will operate.”
  • Ze Chen, of Dual Server Cooling, Student Track winner, advised, “Engage in dialogue with as many people as you can when developing your plan; you’ll learn a lot.”
  • Erik Wernevi, of Nordic Technology Group, winner of the Technology Award, said, “Listen to your customers and potential customers, because what they say will shape a plan that will be robust and catch the attention of the judges.”

About the Competition

Established in 2000, the Rhode Island Business Plan Competition has been recognized as one of the top 40 business plan competitions in the country. To date, it has awarded more than $1.6 million in prizes to competitors developing companies across many industries.

In addition to awarding prizes, the Competition hosts educational events in the months leading up to the application deadline. They include business development, financial planning, and presentation skills workshops. In addition, the competition hosts the annual Rhode Island Elevator Pitch Contest.
