2015 Smart Growth Awards Presented by Grow Smart RI Takes Place May 21

PROVIDENCE, RI – Grow Smart RI’s 2015 Smart Growth Awards returns on Thursday, May 21. The event, now in its fourth year, takes place at 5:30PM at The Ballroom at The Providence G (100 Weybosset Street). Following the awards ceremony will be a special cocktail reception at The Arcade (65 Weybosset Street).

The event features a keynote address by Oregon Congressman Earl Blumenauer, who has been the chief spokesperson for smart growth and vibrant communities in Congress. He has traveled the country for more than a decade observing and promoting smart growth best practices.

Established in 1998, GrowSmart RI has become the leading advocate for sustainable economic growth, revitalization, and improved quality of place in the Ocean State’s urban, suburban, and rural communities.

Scott Wolf, the award-winning organization’s executive director, stated, “Each year, passionate, creative, and resourceful Rhode Islanders show us the way to tap our state’s full potential through projects, plans, and policies that play to Rhode Island’s strengths, generate enduring economic benefits, both statewide and in specific neighborhoods.”

The 2015 Smart Growth Awards will recognize three inspiring leaders, four transformative smart growth projects, and two visionary sets of policies to encourage smart growth and address barriers to downtown development. A special Founders’ Leadership Award will also be presented.
