Tonight, Thursday, October 23 at 6PM: The Matty Fund and Brain Injury Association of RI Host Workshop on Link Between Epilepsy and Traumatic Brain Injury

WARWICK, RI – The Matty Fund and the Brain Injury Association of Rhode Island will cohost a workshop on the link between epilepsy and traumatic brain injury tonight, Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick.

Seventy-five to 100 attendees, including families that have been helped by The Matty Fund and the Brain Injury Association of Rhode Island, are expected for a presentation by Dr. Andrew S. Blum, Deputy Chief of Neurology at Rhode Island Hospital and researcher at Brown University’s Warren Alpert Medical School, on head trauma and its relationship to acute seizures and epilepsy.

The event is part of The Matty Fund’s quarterly educational workshop series that provides free resources for families living with epilepsy. Previous workshops topics have included the link between autism and epilepsy, alternative therapies for seizures, and seizure safety.

The Matthew Siravo Memorial Foundation is a non-profit organization in memory of Matthew Siravo who passed away from epilepsy May 11, 2003. It is dedicated to providing epilepsy awareness through educational programs, aid for epilepsy research and education, and family events and scholarships for those living with epilepsy.
