The Center for Women & Enterprise and SCORE Partner to Provide Education Programs in Disaster Preparedness and Business Resiliency for RI Small Businesses

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Center for Women & Enterprise (CWE) will partner with SCORE to reach and educate the Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts small businesses with training, information, and assistance in how to prepare for disasters that could disrupt their businesses, and how to make their business more resilient.

The CWE has received a grant to develop and implement a Disaster Preparedness and Business Resiliency Plan from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The grant is called the Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief Phase 2 Grant, and its goal is to further the growth and survival of small businesses in the federal designated Sandy affected areas of Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Both the CWE and SCORE are resource partners of SBA. The Disaster Preparedness and Business Resiliency Plan will provide small businesses with education, training and resiliency preparation related to disasters and disruption – the why, when, and how to prepare for an event. Additionally, we will provide education on other small business topics that are essential to strengthening the small business community.

“We would like to stress the need for businesses to start thinking proactively, rather than reactively, about disasters, because unplanned events are bound to happen”, states Claudia Cornejo, Program Manager of the Center for Women & Enterprise (CWE).

Andrew Beamon, SCORE Project Manager, “SCORE is proud to partner with CWE on such a special project.  We cannot stop hurricanes, winter storms, or other natural or man-made disasters, but we can help businesses be better prepared and mitigate the impact such events have on their business.”
