The Center for Business Engagement at RWU Launches 2-day Social Media Seminar

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Center for Business Engagement at Roger Williams University announced today a new training seminar that will help small and medium-sized businesses implement a strategic social media marketing campaign. The seminar, Visual Social Media will walk small business owners through today’s most innovative social media platforms to help them build and customize a social media marketing program that meets the needs of their specific organization.

Often due to a lack of resources, expertise or time, many small business owners struggle to establish and maintain a social media presence that can help elevate the visibility of their business to prospective customers. The Visual Social Media seminar offered by RWU’s Center for Business Engagement allows business owners to learn social media fundamentals like featuring product images on Instagram, producing YouTube videos, best practices for posts on Facebook and Twitter, creating paid web advertising and blogging, among other topics.

A secondary component to the seminar provides participants with the opportunity to work with a team of RWU students that will implement the expertise and best practices taught in the course to build and maintain a robust social media presence. For small business owners who may lack the time to launch a social media marketing campaign following the seminar, this option allows them to pursue the ideas presented in the two-day seminar but with a team of student experts that can take the lead on executing the day-to-day tasks.

“The Visual Social Media seminar will provide the programs, solutions and the actual optional building and maintaining of a social media presence for each business that might want to quickly ramp up their technology presence,” says Joel Cooper, assistant director of the Center for Business Engagement.

The seminar will be led by David Bettencourt, a renowned Cinematographer and Emmy award winner for his work creating Alex and Ani commercials. Bettencourt is also a filmmaker and creator of the film “You must be this Tall: the Story of Rocky Point Park.” Beyond his work as a producer, director and filmmaker, Bettencourt is widely regarded for his expertise in social media marketing and video production.

The Visual Social Media seminar will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26 and Tuesday, March 31 on the University’s Providence Campus at One Fifty Washington Street. Interested students must enroll by visiting rwu.edu/go/pec-enroll for a total cost of $100 per participant.
